About Betsey
Born and raised in suburban Kansas, I understand the values and priorities of Johnson County families. I would be proud to represent District 30 in the Kansas House of Representatives.
I was raised in Overland Park in a proud Union family. Now, my husband Chris and I live in Lenexa with our two awesome kids: 10-year-old Charlie and 7-year-old Lilly.
After graduating from St. Thomas Aquinas High School, I earned both my bachelor’s and master’s degrees in English from Emporia State University.
My public service began with my first job as a high school English teacher in Prairie View School District. While serving as a teacher, I was a member of the Kansas National Education Association.
During my time at UMKC School of Law, I worked for the Johnson County District Attorney, the Honorable Judge Phillips in the Western District of Missouri, and interned in the Civil Department of the US Attorney’s Office for the District of Kansas and the Western District of Missouri. I also welcomed my first child!
After graduating with my law degree, I worked in the Chambers of Judge G. Joseph Pierron (retired) and Justice Carol Beier (retired), then spent six years in private practice as a commercial litigator, including cases before the Kansas Supreme Court.
During my time as a commercial litigator, I had the opportunity to provide pro bono legal services though Legal Aid of the Western District of Missouri’s Adopt-A-Neighborhood and the Dilley Pro Bono Project.
I am proud to serve as a Board Member of the Missouri Family Health Council, as a Board of Governor for the Kansas Bar Association, and as a Committee Co-Chair for the Kansas Women Attorney Association.
